Lake Watauga has been drained and readied for a substantial renovation. The bottom of the pond will be dredged, a new aeration and circulation system will be installed, and floating wetlands will be added.
I have no idea when the pond was last drained and dredged. The pond was built in 1897 for the Tennessee Centennial Exposition.

My wife and I went there a few weeks ago and saw this same site. I do hope they get it all up and running before too long, it looks pretty disgusting right now. I’m sure it will look much better once it gets fixed. Never ceases to amaze me how people feel like they have to throw stuff in the water. Nice black and white images my friend!
